IPTV buffering or freezing: how to fix it at home

When a channel freezes or the picture keeps loading, the cause is usually somewhere between your router and your TV. IPTV depends entirely on your internet connection, and a stable connection matters more than a fast one.

The checks below go from the quickest to the slowest. Most people find the cause in the first three.

Check if the problem is one channel or all of them

Open two or three other channels, and one movie from the on-demand library.

If only one channel freezes, the problem is probably that channel’s stream. Try it again a few minutes later, and tell us which channel it is so we can check it.

If everything freezes, keep reading: the cause is almost always on the connection side.

Restart the router and the device

Yes, it’s the oldest trick there is. It still works more often than you’d think. Unplug the router for 30 seconds, plug it back in and wait until its lights are steady. Then restart your TV, stick or box completely, not just the app.

Use an Ethernet cable if you can

Wi-Fi gets weaker through walls and floors, and the signal changes when someone uses the microwave or when the neighbours' networks are busy. A cable between the router and the TV removes all of that.

If a cable is not practical, move the router closer to the TV or the TV closer to the router. Even a few metres can make a clear difference.

Look at what else is using your connection

Large downloads, game updates, cloud backups and other people streaming in the house all share the same line. If the freezing happens in the evening or when everyone is home, this is a likely cause. Pause the big downloads and test again.

As a reference point, Netflix recommends at least 15 Mbps for 4K streaming (Netflix Help Center). If your line is slower than that, or several people stream at once, choose the HD or SD version of a channel instead of 4K.

Check the app

  1. Update the app to its latest version from the store or the developer’s official website.
  2. Clear the app’s cache, or remove and reinstall it, then add your login again.
  3. Try a second app with the same login. If the channels play smoothly in the other app, the first one was the problem. Our setup guides show which apps work on your device.

Check how many devices are watching

Your plan sets how many screens can watch at the same time. If more devices connect than your plan allows, some streams will stop. A phone or a tablet left playing in another room counts as a screen.

Close the app on the devices you are not using. If your household often watches on more screens than your plan includes, our guide on how many IPTV screens you need can help you choose.

Still freezing? Message us

Send us three things on WhatsApp, Telegram or email: your device, your app, and whether it happens on every channel or only some. With that, we can usually find the cause quickly.

Frequently asked questions

Why does IPTV buffer when my internet is fast?

Speed is not the only factor. Weak Wi-Fi where the TV is, or a connection shared with large downloads, can make the stream unstable even on a fast line. A cable or a closer router usually helps.

Does 4K need a faster connection?

Yes. 4K uses much more data than HD. If 4K freezes, try the HD version of the same channel.
